Consistency and hardwork are
the keys to success. IIT-JEE is a challenging exam and I had
a deep seated desire to make it into one of the IITs. I worked
very hard to achieve this goal. I ensured that I was thorough
with the fundamentals of each topic and then moved on to solving
problems. I attended classes regularly and set aside time
to revise what I had learnt.
The most important thing is
to ensure that your fundamentals are crystal clear and to
stick to your schedule and study regularly. If you keep your
goal in mind, this becomes easier to do. At the end of the
day, all the effort and hardwork that you put in bears fruit.
Studying regularly also boosts
your confidence and minimises tension and anxiety on the final
day. Best of luck as you pursue your dreams !

Passing out from one of the IITs was
my resolution for as long as I can remember. I started studying
for the Screening exam. Alongside school, I joined coaching classes
and also subscribed to the tutorials by post. Apart from all the
classes, books and the coaching, one has to remember that there
is no substitute to the work that you put in on your own.
I used to get up at 5 every morning
for two years in a row in class XI and class XII and study for the
IIT Screening exam from 5-7 every morning. The important thing to
remember was that I had to keep up with my studies in school as
well as study for the IIT. So I decided to devote a regular two
hours everyday so as to avoid any nervousness at the eleventh hour.
I used to take up one subject daily and study as per the syllabus
for the IIT screening.
Also I always revised the previous
topic before taking up any new topic just to refresh my memory.
This, I believe is very important when the syllabus to be studied
is very vast. Solve as many mock tests as possible. Remember that
being a regular student and planning studies relieves all the hypertension
and pre-exam stress. Though you cannot avoid stress completely,
you can reduce it significantly ! Wish you all the Best !

Aditya Nath Jha, a 1987 batch graduate of IIT Kharagpur,
is the CEO of Big Leap. Aditya's previous assignment was that of
Director, Strategic Marketing with Aditi Technologies, a Bangalore
and Seattle based Software Company, where he spent 4 years. Aditya
was responsible for launching Talisma in the US, which is the leading
product in the eCRM space and is the most successful software product
made in India and marketed abroad. Prior to Aditi, Aditya was the
Creative Director in advertising agencies like O&M, Ambience and
Rediffusion. He has built brands like Suzuki Samurai, Tata Tea,
Taaza, A1 tea, Titan watches, Allen Solly, Citra and Esselworld.
He has also been a visiting faculty at IIM Bangalore and has been
a panelist at international conferences on eCRM.
This is what he says, 'I think the basic formula
for cracking the IIT-JEE is to first decide on what kind of coaching
you are going to follow and from when. Talk to your friends who
have already cleared the Screening Tests as to the best options
available. Get the syllabus and list of books and chalk out a plan
for yourself. Finish your syllabus well before the class and also
well before the the Screening test so that you have ample time for
revisions and mock tests. Rate yourself with respect to your classmates
to have an idea of where you stand. Pay particular attention to
your temperament. If you stick to your schedule, you will realise
that there is no nervousness or tension prior to the exam. Avoid
last minute studying as far as possible. In fact, do not solve any
problems or mock tests one week before the exam so as to avoid feeling
tense'.

Hard work and a deep understanding
of fundamentals is the secret of good scores at the IIT-JEE according
to me. I studied for the IIT-JEE during Class XII as well as after
Class XII. Again, one has to stick to fundamentals in all the subjects.
Apart from the coaching institute that you may decide to join, remember
that the effort that you put-in yourself is very very important!!
I studied for the IIT-JEE during Class XII and also appeared for
it and I only realized the importance of fundas after this appearance.
I studied for it again and this time I made it!!! The point is that
one has to be really committed to make it and study accordingly.
It does not matter what books you refer to or what coaching class
you attend, as long as you are consistent and maintaining your schedule!!
So work hard and wish you all the Luck!!

Most people look at IITian with lots
of awe, thinking they (the IITians) are possibly from some other
planet….just because they have been able to clear a (simple enough)
examination called JEE. I can give you my personal example. After
completing my IIT degree, I used to look at IIM guys with similar
awe and admiration in my eyes…being not very sure of myself, and
being kind of scared of this exam called CAT. I of course went on
to do my MBA from IIM Bangalore (class of 1991-93).
Well guys, the IITians (or IIMites for that matter), do not have
any more gray matter than you guys do. The formula for success or
the magic potion if you want to call it that lies in sheer hard
work, perseverance and just a little bit of intelligence - believe
me, just a little bit, not too much. There are of course those extra
intelligent Einstein kind of guys in IIT - but most of them are
just average -like me.
When you decide to appear for the IIT-JEE, the first important decision
you must take is regarding the coaching you plan to take. Select
the best option available to you.Plan your studies and cover the
entire syllabus well before the screening tests. Revise and take
as many mock tests as you can. Follow a strict schedule to avoid
last minute panic.
So guys, work hard…do it very meticulously,
stick to a regular schedule. And have confidence in yourself. BELIEVE
IN YOURSELF, and the world will be in your pocket.

Passing out from an institute as reputed
as IIT was always my dream. But realising this dream is by itself
a Herculean task. I started studying right after my class X exams
at Kota. The first thing to do was to subscribe to postal tutorials.
The next thing was to get myself enrolled in a reputed coaching
institute. The basic thing that one has to look for is that one
has to stick religiously to one's schedules. Make a schedule by
dividing topics and chapters date-wise over a period of say one
year.
I attended classes regularly, revised all the topics covered everyday
and concentrated on understanding the fundamentals of each topic.
Also, before any class, I used to solve problems based on previously
covered topics just as a revision. Another thing to remember is
that you must not stop at anything to get your fundas cleared, refer
to all reputed publications and authors. All weekends and holidays
were reserved for taking tests and challenge questions just to test
my ability and assure myself that I was on the right track and to
keep the confidence alive and very much there.
Believe me, if you stick to your schedule and study regularly according
to your timetable there is no looking back. Towards the end, solve
as many mock tests as possible and devote a whole month to these
tests. There is a brighter side to being a regular student - all
that anxiety and tension before the big day is minimum while your
confidence level is really high ! So remember, at the end of the
day, it is all the hard work that you put in and your planning that
is going to help you sail through !

I must say that hard work and consistency
is the key to cracking the IIT-JEE. The first and foremost thing
to remember is that crash courses and 11th hour studying are going
to get you nowhere. I started studying for the IIT-JEE while studying
in class XI at Kanpur. I joined a Coaching Institute at Kanpur and
also subscribed to postal courses.
One has to keep in mind that whatever
the coaching, one has to concentrate on clear fundamentals. You
could take several mock tests organised and scheduled by several
institutes as well as prominent faculty to test yourself and your
standing. Also, one has to concentrate on all subjects equally.
The IIT-JEE scoring methodology ensures this, as you have to have
a minimum percentile in all the subjects.
Do not study topics that you are not
at all familiar with at the 11th hour. This would only confuse you
and add to the nervousness. Begin studying at the right time, plan
your studies and remember there are no short cuts to hard work and
practice. Wish you all the best !
