The
Joint Entrance Test (JET) is conducted for admission to MBBS and
BDS courses in Mahatma Gandhi Dental College and Hospital, Pondicherry;
and Vinayaka Mission Medical College, Karaikal.
Separate
rules regulate admission to MBBS course in Jawaharlal Institute
of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry.
Criteria for Domicile: Candiates
who have lived for 5 years in Pondicherry or have passed SSLC or
HSC and had for that purpose undergone academic studies continuously
for 3 successive classes immediately preceding the qualifying exam
located in the UT of Pondicherry and have been residing in Pondicherry
for 3 yrs are considered domiciled. Children of Central, State Government
employees, Public Sector Undertaking serving in Pondicherry and
French nationals residing in the UT of Pondicherry are exceptions.
Eligibility: Candidates must
fall in the age group 17-21 yrs on 31st December of the year of
admission (17-24 yrs in case of SC/ST candidates). Candidates must
pass HSC (12th) exam conducted by the board of Higher Secondary
Examination of Tamil Nadu or its equivalent in first attempt securing
50% marks in Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Improvement marks are
not considered.
Application Procedure: Application
form along with the information bulletin can be obtained from the
notified branches of Canara Bank in Pondicherry on cash payment
of Rs 250 (Rs 50 for SC/ST candidates). Application form can also
be obtained by post by sending a self-addressed and stamped (Rs.
15) envelope of size 25*18 cm along with a crossed demand draft
of Rs. 250 in favour of the "Convener, CENTAC" payable at Pondicherry.
Completed applications should reach the Convener, CENTAC, Pondicherry
Engineering College, Pondicherry 605014 by the notified date.
Selection: Selection is based
on merit in JET and marks obtained in the qualifying exam. Both
of them are given equal importance. The test is conducted at Pondicherry
and consists of 80 objective type questions in Physics & Chemistry
and 10 questions in Biology (Zoology& Botany). The result is
notified in leading newspapers and in the colleges.
